Respect the Utopians

I admit I was a bit reluctant about posting this video, but hey, we can’t run from our past… You’re either with or against me, and it is not up to me to decide which side you’re on. I like the concept of “I’d rather be someone’s shot of gin than everybody’s cup of tea” which made me decide to post this video in anyways.

In my second year, we received an assignment where we had to pick a catchphrase and create some kinda self-expression out of it. I just rolled with Respect the Utopians, because that’s what I am. There is no such thing as a perfect world unless you create your own magic. A friend of mine did the video work for me and we edited it together afterwards. We concluded that he was the director and I was the producer, whatever that may mean.

A little while ago, I posted this image of myself as a kid on Instagram.

Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?

I used to be a whole lot more eccentric when I was younger. What happened, I won’t ever know. Maybe we tone down to be more acceptable to society? Or maybe our circumstances take things away from us without giving us a choice of whether we should let go or not. Our office often asks me to keep it down. I am loud and I am chaotic. I am passionately in love with my emotions and a whole bunch of other things that are completely irrelevant to this post. I came across a saying the other day, but can’t remember exactly how they said it (or even who said it). It boiled down to “I am no longer shrinking myself to be more digestible. You can choke.” Honestly honest, it is a bit harsh. But after I chewed on it for a while, it made sense and resonated with me quite a bit.

Here is the video. The song is by Chemical Brothers. Respect the Utopians, because we respect you.

Create your own magic and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.
