Chocolate cake recipe

Chocolate cake recipe

I’ve had this urge to bake a cake for quite some time now. A chocolate one. With chocolate ganache and not icing. I don’t dislike icing at all, it’s just way too much work to make. Ganache, on the other hand, is quick and easy and takes no special skills when applying it. It’s like a ready-mix: pour and go.

See? It looks a little alive!

A couple of days before the human boy’s birth, I had the same bee in my bonnet. How can I give birth to a child if I have never baked a cake before? So, I accepted the challenge. The image gives you an indication of how well that worked out for me. I suppose we can call it an Addams Family creation. Well, it tasted great if you were able to look beyond the presentation.

So, I decided to overcome my first fail and bought the ingredients. A week went by and I ate the ganache ingredients as a bedtime snack. This weekend I tried again. I could not for the life of me find the recipe I originally used and came across this one which sounded easy enough. No eggs with coffee. And the blog’s name,ย Noble Pig, sounded pretty good to me too. I did not use her icing recipe though, but it tasted great with this foolproof ganache recipe I always use.

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon table salt
2 cups hot water
3/4 cups vegetable oil
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
1 Tablespoon instant coffee granules
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 175ยฐ C
The round cake pan I have is obviously bigger than hers, so use the one you have and decide if it is going to be a tiered cake or a normal flat one. Spray the pan with nonstick spray.
Sift together all the dry ingredients but the coffee. Make sure you use a big bowl.ย Mix it well.
Combine the water, oil, vinegar, coffee and vanilla essence in a bowl.
Mix the wet ingredients with the dry ones and pour it into the cake pan.
Bake it for more or less 35 minutes until you insert a knife and it comes out clean.
This step is the one I skipped with my Addams Family creation: Let it cool for 20 minutes before you flip it over onto a plate.

Cover the cake with ganache, and voila! This is one easy way to fall in love with yourself!

Yours in happy baking,
